A Caesars Entertainment casino in Indiana is facing a lawsuit regarding the death of a woman at the property in March.

Michelle Keeley’s estate and her husband filed a complaint claiming the Southern Indiana Hotel & Casino contributed to her death after serving her at least 17 alcoholic drinks despite her clear intoxication.

her blood alcohol level was almost triple the legal limit for driving

The 43-year-old woman died in a bathroom after choking on her vomit, with the autopsy revealing her blood alcohol level was almost triple the legal limit for driving. A toxicology report also found she had “acute multi-drug intoxication” after taking a pill containing fentanyl.

It’s not just the casino that’s a defendant in the complaint, with plaintiffs also going after the company that served the drinks, VICI Properties, which owns the property’s real estate, and EBCI Holdings which manages the property for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

The legal counsel for the plaintiffs claims the property failed in its duty of care and the gross negligence showcased a reckless disregard for the woman’s life. The lawsuit is seeking more than $75,000 in damages.
