Nevada, Colorado, and now Iowa

US-based operator Circa first stepped into the world of sports betting by launching its mobile app in Nevada in 2019. The company followed this in July last year with a launch in Colorado, and it has now gone live in its third state as it continues to expand across the US.

The operator rolled out its mobile sportsbook at the Wild Rose Casino and Resort in the state of Iowa on Thursday this week. Circa Sports’s official Twitter page posted to announce the news along with some available American football and baseball odds:

Commenting on the launch, Derek Stevens, CEO of Circa Sports, described the company as “thrilled” to go live in Iowa and the Midwest. “Iowa marks the third state of operation for our mobile app, and we’ve appreciated the collaboration with Wild Rose and Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission on bringing this launch to fruition,” he stated.

Bringing Vegas betting to the state

Circa’s betting offerings include multiple retail locations in Southern Nevada. In October 2020, the company launched a sportsbook billed as “the largest sports betting experience in the world”, located at the Circa Resort and Casino in downtown Las Vegas. More recently, Circa opened its second satellite location at The Pass casino in Henderson.

Now it has entered Iowa, the operator believes its sportsbook will represent one of the best offerings in the state. According to a Thursday press release, the mobile sportsbook will allow bettors to browse live odds “anytime, anywhere.” It provides parlay wagering, in addition to two-sided yes/no future betting on a range of sports. Circa also totes itself as boasting the state’s “highest limits, lowest hold percentages, and best customer service.”

Its partnership with Wild Rose Casino and Resort tethers Circa Sports’s mobile app to a casino located in Jefferson. Wild Rose has three properties in different locations across the state and has signed similar sports betting partnerships with DraftKings and BetRivers.

The state of Iowa wagering

Iowa launched legal sports betting in August 2019, allowing both online and retail sportsbooks to offer wagering activity. Over the course of the pandemic, that betting market reached new heights as an in-person registration requirement came to an end. This allowed bettors to sign up to mobile sportsbooks remotely, prompting a string of operators to launch online options from January.

Iowa registered sports betting handle of $108.4m in the market’s last reported month of August. This represented a bounce back from July, when the state failed to reach nine figures for the first time in eight months. The handle total also corresponded to a rise of 116% in comparison with the prior year.

Notably, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission also provides data on each individual operator’s performance. DraftKings collected the most mobile revenue for the month of August at $2.3m, while FanDuel represented the only other sportsbook to reach seven figures. Mobile operators had an overall win rate of 4.89% for the month.
